Ms. Maria
BOARD CERTIFIED AND LICENSED MASTER’S LEVEL OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST

Maria Montgomery is a compassionate and creative Occupational Therapist whose path to OT has been shaped by both formal clinical training and rich lived experience. She is a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association and the Maine Occupational Therapy Association. A Maine-based clinician, Maria earned her Master of Occupational Therapy from the University of Southern Maine, developing a strong foundation working with individuals across the lifespan—from children in sensory-rich, play-based programs to adults with complex mental health needs, older adults in long-term care, and veterans participating in adaptive sports.
Maria was drawn to the heart of occupational therapy: meeting people where they are, adapting environments and activities to support meaningful participation, and recognizing the power of small, purposeful changes in everyday life. Her passion for pediatric occupational therapy grew through facilitating outdoor, play-based programming for children with developmental, sensory, and behavioral challenges. Through nature-based, child-led play, she supported sensory integration, social-emotional growth, confidence, and resilience, building trusting relationships with children and families.
Before entering the OT profession, Maria built a successful career in design, where she honed creativity, problem-solving, and clear communication—strengths she now applies to intervention planning and client education. These experiences shaped her into a therapist who is resourceful, flexible, and grounded in strong therapeutic rapport.
Maria grew up in a family of teachers and spent summers helping in special education programs. She led an exercise program for children with disabilities, fueling her passion for supporting kids in accessing the tools and resources they need to succeed. She enjoys working in a small, collaborative team where she can try creative interventions and contribute to a diverse population, and treasures working with children who are passionate, unfiltered, and freely expressing their identities.
Outside of work, Maria enjoys spending time outdoors, road trips, traveling, attending live music, going to the gym, and arts and crafts. She has lived in California, New Jersey, New York, and Maine, and before becoming an OT, she worked as a graphic designer in the fashion industry.
Maria brings a calm, creative, and authentic presence to her work and feels honored to support children as they grow, explore, and succeed in ways that are meaningful to them and their families.
